I Am NOT David

Flowers don’t compete with other flowers, they just bloom. Are we blooming as the Body of Christ? Am I blooming as His daughter, as a wife, as a mother to my 3 beautiful children? Blooming requires that I count my blessings rather than counting someone else’s. When we can’t take our eyes off of someone else’s talent, appearance, or resources, it’s impossible to focus on bearing fruit for God. When this is the case, we run the risk of displaying the same jealousy that caused Saul to go from appreciating and applauding David to attempting to murder him. Today’s realization, I am Not David, calls for us to focus on the grace God has put on our life and appreciate our individual pathway to destiny.

If you’ve ever studied the Old Testament, you’ve seen that God used several different styles of leadership: judges, priests, prophets, and kings. The success of all was dependent on their devotion to God. David, considered a man after God’s own heart, have several victories noted throughout the books of the bible. We think shepherd, poet, giant-killer, king, ancestor of Jesus when we think of him but the bible doesn’t neglect to mention his failures as a betrayer, liar, adulterer, and murderer as well. This proves that when you witness greatness within one, it doesn’t happen without obtaining bruises along the way. Because of these inevitable bruises, we can embrace who we are, how He fashioned us and resist the jealous spirit that is just one step away from murder.

Ephesians 2:10 states, 10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” Is that not the spinach that will make your spiritual muscles swell!! Knowing who you are and who you are not will always help you to strive to be and do what our Heavenly Father created us to do and be. Why? Because this was no inferior work by one with withered hands. Our almighty God has prepared us to carry out His will in predestined ways with destined strength; therefore, jealousy of others won’t distract us from getting to our place of overflow. Let’s allow the spirit of I am NOT David to resonate with us as we strive to please God with what He has gifted us to do that with. From this day forward, don’t ever celebrate what you see in others and discount what God has placed on the inside of you. With that being said, I would like to close by spelling beautiful a little differently to solidify the notion of this devotion: beYOUtiful!

Pray with me.

Father God, maker and creator of all that is good, including me, thank you for my workmanship, my shaping, and my path to you. I believe in your sovereignty and your plan for my life. The route to get me to my place of overflow is already mapped out and your watchful eye and loving hand will guarantee my arrival as I depend on you. Amen!
