Dig It Up

Matthew 25:14-18 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

There is a quote that I would like to begin with that says, “A ship in a harbor is safe but that is not what ships are for.” This very true statement functions almost like a call and response of sorts that I think God is using to call out to His beloved creation with the question ``what are you sitting on?”. This devotion is to inspire you to have a proper response.

Considering the fact that God is our Creator, we must know that just like any other creator, He created us with intentionality. Because so many of us ignore that truth or feel it to be true for others but not for ourselves, we handle the gifts of God like the servant in our topic verses who buried the bag of gold he was entrusted with. The master, who represents God, was going on a journey but before He left, He distributed bags of gold to different ones. Our Master, our Creator, our Lord is preparing a place for us and He allowed you and I to come into the earth to do a work for Him with intentions to be glorified as we utilize the tools, the ideas, the creativity,...... the gold He entrusts with each of us to do this work with. Unlike those that valued what they were given and considered how to use it to present even more upon the master’s return, the servant we are focusing on dug a hole in the ground and buried what he was given. You may be wondering why I chose to concentrate on him and not one of the other two. It is because there are too many ships in the harbor, too many of us choosing the safe and easy route rather than choosing to use what God has entrusted to us. I heard the late, great Dr. Myles Monroe say something that I hope will inspire you to take this message to heart, “The graveyard is the richest place on the surface of the earth because there you will see the books that were not published, ideas that were not harnessed, songs that were not sung, and drama pieces that were never acted.”

To my brothers and sisters that have been finding it easy to ignore the beckon of God for more, this is for you. Let’s make up our mind to dig up what we’ve buried, what we’ve forgotten about, what we’ve ignored for too long. Our loving master has entrusted His wealth with each of us, which means we each have ability that He foreknew. Your reasonable response is not to ignore this and take all that He’s given you to the grave but to acknowledge what bag of gold you have and multiply it. If you have failed to because you’ve doubted that God could accomplish in you what He’s shown you, dig it up. If you’ve allowed fear of rejection to keep you from making the call, writing the book or the grant, dig up the vision God showed you and have the faith to move, to act on it. Understanding that He will never leave us like a ship without a sail, we can confidently move in response to the treasure He has entrusted to us, not bury it. Hear your sister say to you today, you are fully equipped to do the multiplying work of our master that will bring Him the glory He richly deserves.

Let’s Pray

Father,

We will dig up everything that we’ve buried out of laziness, fear, and doubt. You deserve every ounce of glory each of your creations can offer up. If there are gifts you’ve entrusted to us that we are not even aware that we’ve buried, reveal them to us. Help us to acknowledge what is in our hands, never to hoard or bury but instead use for your glory. I will be your creation that yields the fruit that will result in you saying, “well done”. Amen
